Sweetwater dendritic agate cab ~
Offered here is a very special cabochon of Sweetwater dendritic agate, from Wyoming. This remarkable stone has a fascinating display of delicate spidery dendrites in various shapes and sizes floating within the stone. They almost look like wispy black snowflakes, suspended in a background of lightly smoky translucent agate. Sweetwater agates have a fascinating history, which you can read up on here, (scroll about halfway down the page). They were plentiful, once upon a time, but are seldom seen these days. They are one of the few known agates that fluoresce in UV light, seeming to glow in brilliant greens. It's an amazing thing to see! But I like these agates for their world-class dendritic habits. -smile- This cab has a low rounded dome of 4mm, a designer 'jellybean' shape, and a brilliantly glassy wet ice polish both front and back.
Size: 46x22mm
Weight: approximately 38 carats
