Pilbara jasper cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of Pilbara jasper, a recent Australian find, fresh from this year's Tucson shows. The material certainly cuts a striking stone, though this example was cut from rough that's very gemmy, compared to other pieces I have and have seen. The body of the cab is mostly smoky black agate, with lighter translucent areas, and it's shot through with bright yellow streaks and white clouds. A beautiful contrasting combination! The cab has a well rounded dome of 5mm, a graceful designer 'paisley' shape, and a slick glassy polish both front and back.
