Snake eyes agate cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of 'snake eyes agate', strange new stuff from Mexico. I don't rightly know if there's such a thing as oolitic agate, but I do believe the tightly packed little eyes (or eggs?) in this material are properly called oolites. The translucent gel-like background in which they float is definitely agate, but I've never seen anything quite like this. Most of the orbs are are subtly ringed, and a few have pinkish centers, with ghostly fortifications in the purplish agate between. Strange stuff, indeed, but it makes fascinating jewelry! The cab has a nicely rounded dome of 4+mm, a designer 'flame' shape, and a great glossy polish both front and back.
