Royal Sahara jasper cab ~
Offered here is a fantastic cabochon cut from Royal Sahara jasper, discovered a couple years ago in the Sahara desert of North Africa by George Sechler. This example has oodles of lacy ribbons in rich brown shades against ochres and creamy tans. There are also dabs of blue-gray and an unusual olive green hue. This one is reminiscent of the old Biggs jasper, which is understandable because both Royal Sahara and Biggs jaspers are silicified mud floes. The stone has a nicely rounded dome, and a graceful designer shape. Like all the more familiar porcelain jaspers, it is very hard, and took a gleaming polish both front and back.
