Sugilite cab ~
Offered here is an cabochon of sugilite, from the Wessels mine near Kuramen, South Africa. This manganese gem features an gorgeous purple coloration, in an unusual pattern interspersed with patches so dark, they're nearly black. No, it's not the gemmy gel material few of us can find or afford, but it's definitely nice nonetheless, with just a bit of translucence toward the edges. One thing I like about sugilite, other than the pleasing color, is that it looks equally terrific in either silver or gold. The cab has a well rounded dome of 5mm, and an excellent polish both front and back.
