Turquoise cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of Chinese turquoise. The raw pieces were hand selected at this year's Tucson shows, and I must say it's the most exciting turquoise I've had to work with in years. The stone has some very appealing sky blue and russet coloration, shading to avocado green where the two hues blend, with strongly contrasting brown and black spiderwebbed matrix. I am particularly fond of these unusual shades together, as it reminds me of the old Royston turquoise I cut a lot of back in the '70s; it was my favorite. This material has been stabilized by a hardening process, as is most modern turquoise, but it has not been subjected to artificial coloring of any kind. It cut like a dream, and will wear wonderfully, without changing over the years. The cab has a nicely rounded dome of nearly 6mm, and it is finished with a smooth glossy polish both front and back.
