Snake eyes agate cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of 'snake eyes agate', strange new stuff from Mexico. I don't rightly know if there's such a thing as oolitic agate, but I do believe the tightly packed little eyes (or eggs?) in this material are properly called oolites. The translucent gel-like background in which they float is definitely agate, and includes some ghostly fortifications. Many of the orbs are faintly ringed, and a few have darker pinkish or brown centers, and they are edged with clear agate. Strange stuff, indeed, but it makes fascinating jewelry! The cab has a low but nicely rounded dome of 5mm, a crisp designer shape, and a great glossy polish both front and back.
Size: 65x18mm
Weight: approximately 43 carats
