Montana agate cab ~
Offered here is a large and unique designer cabochon of Montana agate, cut from an old Yellowstone River nodule full of banded layers. Layered stones, which appear to be water level bands, often have the fanciest dendrites to be found in this type of agate. After careful slicing, it's sometimes possible to shape and polish them into truly remarkable cabs. That's how this example came to be, and it does have a fascinating display of dendritic mosses. It also has a trio of extraordinarily well-defined tubes, impressive bullseyes that run clean through the stone. The background agate is highly translucent, with a warm yellowish overtone to it that I really like. And it's even more amazing backlit! The cab has a well rounded dome of 5mm, a graceful teardrop shape, and a brilliantly glassy polish both front and back.
Size: 52x28mm
Weight: approximately 53 carats
