Blue Dinosaur Bone cab ~
Here is a large cabochon of fossilized dinosaur bone, from Utah. This highly silicated material is many millions of years old, and it is a marvelous example of the natural preservation of our earth's ancient, extinct 'thunder lizards'. The cells in this fossil bone have been completely replaced with pale bluish agate, with a tiny patch of tan cells at one edge, and each is framed with a lattice-like network of black webbing. Those are the actual cell walls, and they're quite distinct here. The cab has a well rounded dome of 5mm, a long rectangular shape, and an extra smooth glassy polish both front and back.
