Snake eyes agate cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of 'snake eyes agate', strange new stuff from Mexico. I don't rightly know if there's such a thing as oolitic agate, but I do believe the tightly packed little eyes (or eggs?) in this material are properly called oolites. The translucent gel-like background in which they float is definitely agate, in a gemmy purplish blue color. One of the eyes has small voids around its edges, which you can't quite see in the photos, but that serves as added character, in my opinion . Most of the orbs have subtle rings as well as pinkish centers, with ghostly fortifications in the agate between. Strange stuff, indeed, but it makes fascinating jewelry! The cab has a nicely rounded dome of 5+mm, a crisp designer shape, and a great glossy polish both front and back.
