Binghamite cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of rare binghamite, from Minnesota's Cuyuna Range. Closely related kin to tigereye and silkstone, binghamite typically exhibits a chatoyance all its own. This one has soft silky streaks and patches of golden yellow with red, and the blackish areas are actually darkly shiny metallic hematite that don't show up well in these photos. My camera and I were only able to catch just a hint of the reflective metallics in the last pic. It has a well rounded dome of 7mm, a crisp designer shape, and an excellent polish both front and back.
