Description
~ Royal Sahara jasper cab ~

Offered here is a fantastic cabochon cut from Royal Sahara jasper, recently discovered in the Sahara desert of North Africa by George Sechler. (Our friends, the Sechlers, will be in Tucson this February at the TEP RV Park Gem and Mineral Show, space #29, so if you're attending, do be sure to drop by. Tell them Sam sent you, and don't miss the outrageous suite of RSJ stones they asked me to cut especially for the show!) This scenic example looks very much like a watercolor painting, with artistic ribbons of rich brown shades against ochres and creamy tans, with curling ropes of blue-gray and an unusual olive green hue. It doesn't tax the imagination to see a picture of another world within the stone, or perhaps you might find a resemblance to the rolling sand dunes of the Sahara desert! heh Royal Sahara jasper is an INSTANT CLASSIC, with patterns a lot like the grand old Biggs and Deschutes jaspers, and often even wilder and more exotic. Try it in your next creation, and I'm sure you'll agree, this stuff is MAGICAL. This substantial stone has a high rounded dome of 6.5mm, and a fancy designer 'paisley' shape that frames the remarkable pattern wonderfully well. Like all the more familiar porcelain jaspers, it is very hard, and took a gleaming polish both front and back.

Size: 49x31mm
Weight: approximately 65 carats
