Turquoise cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of turquoise from China, cut from hand selected rough fresh from this year's Tucson shows. The stone has unusual golden russet coloration with a bit of sky blue, shading to greens where the two meet and blend, with nicely contrasting chocolate and black spiderwebbed. Much of this Chinese turquoise reminds me a of the old Royston turquoise, the stuff I chose back in the '70s for my own jewelry. This material has been stabilized by a hardening process, as is most modern turquoise, though there is no artificial coloring. It will wear wonderfully, without darkening or dimming over the years. The cab has a well rounded dome of 5mm, a crisp designer shape, and a smooth glossy polish front and back.
