Petrified wood cab ~
Offered here is a fine cabochon of wildly patterned, vividly colorful petrified wood, which might be more accurately called a wood replacement. The label on the old round slab used to cut this stone said "Utah", so that's all I can tell you about its origin. It's a very gemmy, highly agatized material, in brilliant crimson with golden yellow. The grain is still quite apparent, though I had to grind the outer bark away to create this cab. Just for accuracy's sake, I would like to mention the presence of a couple of short hairlines and some slight pits due to undercutting, though the stone is quite solid and stable; they're only minor imperfections, easily overlooked. The cab has a low rounded dome of 5mm, a plump teardrop shape, and a glassy polish both front and back.
