Cacoxenite in amethyst cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of amethyst with inclusions of golden cacoxenite, a rarity cut from grand old Brazilian material. Technically, the inclusions are the mineral goethite, and I can truthfully tell you that those little spikes are the most amazingly bright golden color I've ever seen in rock! Their appearance is like spun gold, and as you can see, they look a lot like 'thorns', which are arranged mostly in rows. The backlit photo reveals that the translucent lavender quartz has several subtle but fascinating phantom crystal growth lines, and those lines turn at an angle in the pointed end of the stone. There are a few areas of typical 'fairy frost' and other inclusions present, but those are not too terribly distracting. The cab has a well rounded dome of 5mm, and a brilliantly glassy polish both front and back.
