Nipomo marcasite cab ~
Offered here is a splendid cabochon of rare Nipomo marcasite in agate, from that famous location in Central California. I've heard the area where this great old material was once collected now has condos built on it, so that's it, folks. This fine example features pale bluish and yellow agate loaded with shiny metallic 'chromed islands' of bright marcasite. Plumes, actually, with oodles of gleam from those beneath the agate's surface! I particularly like the metallic 'fingers' in this one, and the way they appear to wrap around. Nipomo marcasite is an extremely challenging material to photograph because it's so highly reflective, and I didn't do real well on some of the pics; the stone in hand is nicer and more detailed than my camera and I were able to illustrate, but you get the idea. The cab has a high rounded dome of 7mm, a versatile designer shape, and a bright gleaming polish both front and back.
