Wampum cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon cut from the Northern Quahog shell, found along the shore of Narragansett Bay, Rhode Island. (This is the same type of clam shell used to make the prized purple wampum which is of great cultural signifigance to people of the Iroquois nation, and others. I got some of these lovely purple and white shells to carve some beads for a customer, and cut this cabochon from part of an extra shell. The cab has an attractive banded pattern, with an interesting patch of yellow that reflects the figure of the outer shell. It has a well rounded dome of 5mm, and a smooth, even polish both front and back.
Size: 49x26mm
Weight: approximately 27 carats
