Bacculite cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon cut from a 70 million year old fossil bacculite, found by a friend of mine near his Montana ranch. A bacculite is an ammonite that has a straight, rather than a coiled shell. An interesting suture pattern of growth events can be seen as black lines roughly resembling the shape of oak leaves. Those lines have a slightly metallic glint to them. Should make a fascinating piece of jewelry! The cab has a high and well rounded dome of nearly 10mm, and a smooth glossy polish both front and back.
