Royal Sahara jasper cab ~
Offered here is a splendid cabochon of the new Royal Sahara jasper, recently found in the North African Sahara desert. This amazing porcelain material has so much going for it, it's hard to know where to begin to describe it... It's like the old Deschutes jasper, and like Biggs jasper as well, with even wilder, more exotic patterns. This example has ribbons of rich browns and creamy tans, with lovely swirling streaks of blue gray. It's quite astonishingly scenic too, much like the rolling sand dunes of the Sahara desert! RSJ is an INSTANT CLASSIC; whether you're a collector or a jewelry designer, try it and you'll see, this stuff is pure magic. This stone has a high rounded dome of 7mm, and a hexagonal designer shape that frames the remarkable pattern wonderfully well. There is a small void present, perhaps 1mm, but it's not easily seen in the busy figure. Like all the more familiar porcelain jaspers, this material is very hard, so I was able to polish both front and back to a brilliant mirror shine.
