Rutilated quartz cab ~
Offered here is a fancy cabochon of rutilated quartz, from Brazil, some of the best I've ever had to work with. It features beautifully flashy needles of bright golden rutile, scattered like jackstraws, with a fleck of hematite and a puffball inclusion. The last photo is a close up showing the gleam of the shiny metallic hematite deep within the stone, and the weird little puffball alongside it. The quality I like best about it is this stone's remarkable depth, created by the layers of rutile, bunched up, single, and one atop the other, criss-crossing every which way. The water clear quartz really shows off, and even amplifies, this stone's many inclusions, and oddly enough, there seems to be a scattering of tiny bubbles that are kind of neat. And you should see how dazzling the rutile looks in direct sunlight, just like threads of spun gold! It has a beautifully rounded dome of nearly 7mm, a designer 'paisley' shape, and a slick, glassy all-over polish.
