Royal Sahara jasper cab ~
Offered here is a striking cabochon of the new Royal Sahara jasper, a recent find from the North African Sahara desert. This amazing porcelain material has so much going for it, it's hard to know where to begin describing it... It's like the old Deschutes jasper, and like Biggs jasper as well, with even wilder, more exotic patterns. This example has swirling ribbons of darkest charcoal, rich ochre and creamy tans, much like I imagine the rolling dunes of the Sahara desert, with their contrasting shadows and light. I particularly like the darkest markings, and the way they resemble a whirlwind in this piece. Royal Sahara jasper, WOW. It's an INSTANT CLASSIC in my book; whether you're a collector or a jewelry designer, try it and you'll see, this stuff is pure magic. This stone has a very high rounded dome of 7+mm, and a crisp designer shape that contains the pattern wonderfully well. Except for one small circular reddish brown area, visible at bottom left of the last photo, which has a matte finish, the stone has a brilliant polish both front and back.
