Rutilated quartz cab ~
Offered here is a large and fancy cabochon of rutilated quartz, from Brazil, some of the best I've ever had to work with. This is 'angel hair' quartz, so called because of its resemblance to fine blond hair. This example is loaded with beautiful flashy needles of golden blond rutile, scattered like jackstraws. The quality I like best about it is the stone's amazing depth; one can see inside to the many layers of rutile, bunched up, single, and one atop the other, criss-crossing every which way. The water clear quartz does a perfect job of showing off the stone's golden inclusions, and there's next to none of the typical 'fairy frost'. It's all the more dazzling in direct sunlight, just like fine threads of spun gold! It has a beautifully high rounded dome of 8.5mm, a crisp designer shape, and a slick, glassy all-over polish.
