Cacoxenite cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of quartz with inclusions of golden cacoxenite, a rarity cut from grand old Brazilian material. Technically, the inclusions are the mineral goethite, and I can truthfully tell you that those little spikes are the most amazingly bright golden color I've ever seen in rock! Their appearance is like spun gold, and as you can see, they really do look like 'thorns', which are arranged in rows. There is also a magenta red inclusion, which I'm told is lepidocrosite, a rare mineral that adds character, color and value. The backlit photo reveals that the translucent quartz also has some areas slightly tinged amethystine purple. There are a few of the typical 'fairy frost' inclusions present, but nothing overly distracting. The cab has a low rounded dome of 4mm, a versatile designer shape, and a brilliantly glassy polish both front and back.
Size: 26x25mm
