Crown of Silver Psilomelane cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of Crown Of Silver psilomelane, from Chihuahua, Mexico. This classic old material is sometimes referred to as 'black malachite', though there's no real relation; it's becoming increasingly spendy due to a lack of production at the source. This example has some bullseyes and bands in shiny 'smoked chrome' alternating with sub-metallic black. The subtle moire pattern is the perfect companion to mokume gane metal work. I do need to mention a small minor hairline at one edge, visible at the bottom of the second photo, and another on the backside. The stone has a low rounded dome of 4mm, and a designer 'flame' shape you're sure to have fun with. Polished front and back.
