Fossil coral cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of ancient fossilized coral, from Indonesia. This fascinating material is something you don't see too often, particularly in these shades, and I must say I really enjoy cabbing it. It is composed of the highly silicated fossil remains of colonial sea coral, many millions of years old! This particular stone has an amazingly ornate pattern of starbursts, much like the spokes of wheels, nicely contrasting in rusty orange, tan, and cream, with some splashes of blue at one side. The cab has a high rounded dome of nearly 6mm, a bold designer 'necktie' shape, and a slick glassy polish both front and back.
