Amethyst cab ~
Here is a cabochon of unusual chevron amethyst, from Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. This stone intrigues me not only because of its deep, rich purple color, but for the distinctive look of the hexagonal phantom crystal, banded concentrically in lavender/white. Neat, huh? There are a few of the typical veils and 'fairy frost', along with some zoning, but this one's still quite attractively gemmy. The cab has well rounded dome of nearly 7mm, an designer 'offset chevron' shape, and a slick glassy polish both front and back.
