Amethystine sowbelly agate cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of amethystine 'sowbelly' agate, from the Last Chance silver mine in Creede, Colorado. This high grade material certainly cuts fabulously rich looking stones, I must say! This example features beautiful purple amethyst crystal, very gemmy, with interesting feathery wisps inside. Below that are agate bands of palest blue alternating with clear, purple and white, followed by crystalline lavender lace. The tiny dark metallic flecks are actually silver ore, which is what the Last Chance miners of the 1890s crushed it for. I'm sure glad they left some because it's absolutely awesome stuff, though it is seldom seen these days. This cab has a very high rounded dome of 6.5mm, a pleasant designer shape, and despite a couple pinpoint voids, it has a smooth gleaming polish both front and back.
Size: 42x18mm
