Royal Sahara jasper cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of the new Royal Sahara jasper, recently found in the North African Sahara desert. This amazing porcelain material has so much going for it, it's hard to know where to begin to describe it... It's a lot like the old Deschutes jasper, and sometimes like Biggs jasper as well, with even wilder, more exotic patterns. This fascinating example has a huge variety of busy patterns both large and small, composed of intricate ribbons of rich browns, ochres and creamy tans, with slate blue-gray shades and hints of olive undertones. Royal Sahara jasper is an INSTANT CLASSIC; whether you're a collector or a jewelry designer, try it and you'll see, this stuff is pure magic. This stone has a high rounded dome of 7mm, with a an elongated ovoid shape that frames the remarkable pattern wonderfully well. Like all the more familiar porcelain jaspers, it is very hard, so I was able to polish both front and back to a brilliantly glassy mirror shine.
