Snake eyes agate cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of 'snake eyes agate', strange new stuff from Mexico. I don't rightly know if there's such a thing as oolitic agate, but I do believe the tightly packed little eyes (or eggs?) in this material are properly called oolites. The translucent gel-like background in which they float is definitely agate, but I've never seen anything quite like this, have you? Some of the eyes have a small void in their centers, as you can see in the photos, but they serve as added character, by my lights. Most of the orbs are ringed, and a few have pinkish centers, with ghostly fortifications in the agate between. Strange stuff, indeed, but it makes fascinating jewelry! The cab has a nicely rounded dome of 6+mm, a bold designer shape, and a great glossy polish both front and back.
