Royal Sahara jasper cab ~
Offered here is a truly remarkable cabochon of the new Royal Sahara jasper, recently found in the North African Sahara desert. This amazing porcelain material has so much going for it, it's hard to know where to begin to describe it... It's a lot like the old Deschutes jasper, and sometimes like Biggs jasper as well, with even wilder, more exotic patterns. This extra fancy stone has intricate ribbons of rich browns, ochres and creamy tans, with hints of unusual olive green and slate blue-gray shades. Viewed with a bit of imagination, it's weirdly scenic, with strange plants that resemble eyelashes! Or it might be a snapshot of another world, one in which the mountainous sides of a gully curve upward to reach the sky, retreating into the distance. heh Royal Sahara jasper is an INSTANT CLASSIC; whether you're a collector or a jewelry designer, try it and you'll see, this stuff is pure magic. This stone has a high rounded dome of 7mm, with a nearly round shape that frames the remarkable pattern wonderfully well. Like all the more familiar porcelain jaspers, it is very hard, so I was able to polish both front and back to a brilliantly glassy mirror shine.
