Pigeon blood agate cab ~
Offered here is a splendid cabochon of rare pigeon blood agate, also known as cornelian, from Utah. This gemmy beauty is an extremely well-marked treasure, classically attractive in vibrant shades of crimson, with a surprisingly translucent agate background. The color seen in the pointed half of the cab comes from zillions of very tiny dots, but what makes this example so unique is the many mossy blooms that somewhat resemble roses, or even interconnected galaxies, afloat within the other half; please click to enlarge the photos to full size and you'll see what I mean. To be perfectly frank, I think you'll search a long time to find another near as nice. The stone has a high and well rounded dome of 6mm, a sweet designer shape, and a brilliantly gleaming polish both front and back.
