Lab created opal cab ~
Offered here is a sweet designer cabochon of fiery Gilson created opal. This opal is not a simulant, but rather, it is laboratory grown. The process, invented long ago by Pierre Gilson, is an expensive and time consuming one that can take up to two years to complete, and it remains a closely guarded secret to this day. The opal is actually grown from natural opal-bearing earths, or so I hear. Totally cool stuff, crack free and virtually 100% pleasure to work with, unlike a lot of mined opal... Anyway, this cab features beautifully intense flashing blue and emerald green fire that's to-die-for gorgeous. There are also hints of sky blue in this amazing stone, as well as a fascinating color shift toward more purplish and bronze hues as the stone is viewed at certain angles. As good as it looks in these photos, it's even more outrageous in person, and there's not a dead spot on it anywhere. The cab has a very high rounded dome of 6mm, a graceful 'paisley' shape, and a glistening polish both front and back.
