Binghamite cab ~
Offered here is a designer cabochon of rare binghamite, from Minnesota. Closely related kin to tigereye and silkstone, binghamite typically shows a nice chatoyance. It's all but extinct nowadays, and I hear even the old mine dumps and tailings have been thoroughly depleted long ago. This cab features a silky streak of golden yellow with red, and a lot of the darker areas are darkly shiny metallic hematite that don't show up well in the photos. It has a very high rounded dome, a long symmetrical shield shape, and a sleek polish both front and back.
