Carey plume agate cab ~
Offered here we have a Carey plume agate cabochon, from Oregon. The source of this rare material has been completely dug out long ago, and looking at the beautiful fiery plumes here, it's easy to see why it was collected to extinction. All that you'll find nowadays is already in the hands of collectors, who tend to cherish them above everything else, and seldom let go. This classic cab features a large, well defined red plume in a contrasting translucent yellowish base. Oddly, there is a thin wedge of clear agate toward the tip, not readily visible; I just want to mention it, though I don't consider it a flaw. The stone has a high rounded dome, a gracefully fluid shape, perfectly polished to a 'wet ice' finish both front and back.
