Nipomo marcasite in agate cab ~
Offered here is a gleaming cabochon of top notch, rare Nipomo marcasite in agate, from that famous location in Central California. The area where this grand old material was found is no longer open to collecting, so it's become mighty tough to come by these days, particularly in this calibre. It features translucent bluish-lavender and pale yellow agate with shiny metallic 'chromed islands' of bright glittery marcasite. The patches that reach the polished surface are SUPER reflective, making photography quite challenging. Those parts are like the sun on a mirror, shiny as a triple chromed bumper, though the first photos don't capture that very well. The last pic is of the backside, illustrating a small crystalline vug. Nipomo marcasite is certainly one of my favorites, and I'm sure you'll like it too, because it cuts collectibly great stones with plenty of character and charm. And this brilliant little beauty is a real keeper! It has a high rounded dome of 6.5mm, and a slick glassy polish both front and back.
